Make it measurable.

If the people around you don't see an observable difference, your hard work counts for next to nothing. Our coaching method includes stakeholder assessments, behavioural progress tracking, and regular Leadership Growth Progress Reviews (LGPR) to ensure real change is happening—not just perceived change.

For those of you who appreciate the metrics, here’s a number for you: 95% of our coached leaders improve their effectiveness.

Embrace the immeasurable.

Growth involves immaterial elements like trust, respect, empathy, fear, power, pride, care... These will never be truly measurable, but they are the things that impact our cognitive reality the most and influence our actions and reactions.

The best executive coach has expertise in navigating the intangibles, and helping you hone your skills in noticing and assessing the invisible dynamics that are affecting you every day.

“As a leader, I know it’s hard for people to share the feedback and information that I need. Margot worked with me to develop a culture of radical feedback with my team and colleagues. Putting this in place has helped me become a better leader and to support my team in their development as leaders within our organization. If you want to grow as a leader, and a person, and help your organization and team to become more effective and healthier, I highly recommend OrgHealth.”

How Does It Work?

A 12-Month Leadership Development Coaching Plan

Customization is 80% of what we do! Coaching always involves a commitment to monthly sessions, with assignments and actions to work on in between. Here's just one idea of what it could look like...

Month
Focus
1

Initial Assessment and Goals

Leader takes initial 360 assessment. Coach may interview key people the leader has selected to gather behavioral perceptions. Leader works with coach to select 1-2 specific behaviors that are important for their leadership growth (example: decision-making and empowering direct reports).

2

Stakeholder Selection

IMPORTANT: Don't pick "yes men".

Leader selects stakeholders (3-8, including 1 board member, 1 ELT member, and 1 direct report) who are impacted by the leader’s day-to-day work and can be counted on to give real and candid input.

3-11

Monthly Growth Goals & Stakeholder Feedback

Quarterly Measurement with the LGPR*

*The Leadership Growth Progress Review is a short online survey (-3 to +3 rating) stakeholders take every quarter to report their perception of the leader’s progress in their growth areas. This survey plays a key role in guaranteeing and measuring leadership growth for the leader and for the organization.

Each month, the leader involves these stakeholders in their growth through an informal check-in asking for practical feedforward suggestions related to their growth areas, reflects on this and drafts a monthly action plan, and discusses this plan and any obstacles with their coach. After each coaching session, the leader responds to the stakeholders, informing them about his/her action plan.

Throughout the month, the leader implements their action plan and, through visible behaviour, shows their stakeholders that they are working to become a more effective leader in the selected leadership growth areas.

Every quarter (approximately), the coach checks in with the stakeholders using the Leadership Growth Progress Review (LGPR). Results are reported back to the leader so they can gauge how their leadership change efforts have been perceived by the stakeholders.

12

Self-Coaching & Mentoring

The coach and leader discuss next steps, including further coaching, self-coaching, and the leader coaching others.

Benefits of stakeholder involvement? Establishing shared accountability for the leader’s growth is a huge accelerator. By implementing change with stakeholders regularly involved, the stakeholders' perceptions of the leader are altered over time and their investment in the leader’s success increases.

Accountability for the leader to take necessary action, accountability for the stakeholders to support their growth... Everyone can see the impact and feel the benefit of the leader’s growth.

FAQ: All About OrgHealth's Coaching Services

If you're a "pick up the phone" kind of person: we would love to talk with you. But here are some quick answers to give a bit more clarity right away.

When you say you customize, what do you mean?

The goal is growth, and there are many different methods and frameworks that can fit different people and situations and goals best. We might employ personality profiles, or group coaching, or journalling, or reading and reflection, or self-assessments, or ad hoc calls, or in-person sessions...

Everyone has preferences and their own different ideas of what they expect from “good coaching”, and we are great listeners. But also, people’s preferences stem from their biases, and sometimes those biases are what are keeping people from growing in the ways they say they want to. Our coaches strike that balance between listening and understanding as well as pushing leaders out into new practices, ideas, and behaviours.

How frequent are the coaching sessions?

Usually one 1-hour session per month, but if needed, we can do two half-hour sessions twice/month. These sessions are done either by phone call, in-person, or Zoom, in a focused environment without distraction.

Why twelve months for the coaching programs? Can we do shorter?

Here are some patterns we observe: It often takes at least three months to hit the real obstacles. In months 4-10, unexpected factors occur, knocking leaders off balance and tempting them to revert to their comfortable (and less productive) default behaviours—and these are the times a coach can help you with the real implementation. Progress in times of unexpected stress is invaluable progress.

The reality is, establishing new behaviours requires both time and application to various situations as they arise. Twelve months is by no means the cap on that process, but it’s the timeframe we encourage leaders to consider for their best chance to establish change they can maintain moving forward.

What are the outcomes of working with an executive coach?

With the help of your coach, you will develop your own goals for the coaching period and crystallize the outcomes that are most important to you and your leadership team. Your coach won’t do the work for you; you will have the full support of a seasoned guide, helping you do the work for yourself. So your outcomes are your own choice! But it might help to be reminded that the leaders we coach (who have metrics involved in the process) meet their own goals 95% of the time.

How is confidential information handled?

With utmost care. Trust is the bedrock of this whole arrangement—if we relay information you shared in confidence to other parties, we destroy any possibility of this working. Your organization’s success is highly dependent on decisions you are making and issues you are managing. That is true for each of the hundreds of leaders we help year after year.

What does executive coaching cost?

An even better question is, “How much is it worth?” Only you can determine the answer to that question. We have clients who have invested over $200,000 for our services and doubled their return on that investment within three years.

You might find that coaching brings value to you by:
...helping you retain high-value staff.
...raising departmental productivity.
...increasing company sales, share value, or membership revenue by enhancing people’s confidence in your organization and leadership.

We don’t say this to be evasive, though. It's $2500 per month. That’s what coaching starts at per person, with a considerable discount for paying for a full year up front, and/or enroling multiple team members.

But we mean what we said. How much is it worth to raise the trust, confidence, effectiveness, and health of your team, your board, your direct reports, and even yourself? If that’s valuable to you, know that it’s also valuable to us. It’s why we do what we do, and we’d love to explore what’s on the line for you and your company, and how to help you get there.
